We talk a lot about what we do: create turnkey command centers from concept through completion. But what about how we do it and who we are?

At Constant, we’re proud of our team and think they deserve a moment in the spotlight, so we’re beginning a blog series highlighting our major departments and the people who help keep it all together. Once a month we will post about a different department at Constant.

In part 1 of this series, we’d like to show you what goes on behind the scenes during the production of our command center furniture.

All of the operations center consoles Constant installs are also designed and manufactured in-house. Our consoles are all made in the United States at our production locations in Rhode Island and Indiana.

Ron Costa, Director of Console Operations at Constant, explained the process:

“Most projects start with a conceptual design where different console layouts are generated in an effort to maximize the best use of space.” After the optimal operations center space design is achieved, it’s time to begin detailed planning for the command center consoles. The Constant team gathers information about the equipment and technologies the client plans to use in the space so that our console department can ensure proper fit and management of all components.

Once the design is approved by the client, the team produces technical shop drawings and fabrication can begin. David Gruber, our Midwest Console Operations Manager, expanded upon the design and fabrication process: “We use standard platforms which we can then alter according to specifications. Depending on your technical storage requirements or aesthetic preferences, we can make it bigger or smaller; more or less involved. Our mission critical consoles can be made in any color and exactly to our clients’ specifications.” Flexibility, according to Gruber, is one of the most valuable parts of Constant’s operations center furniture design. “We’re creative, quick on our feet, and able to respond to customer requests quickly.”

Once the fabrication process is complete, the consoles are pre-staged in Constant’s facilities for fit and finish as well as quality control checks. After passing inspection, the consoles are disassembled, packed and made ready fro freight to the installation site where they will be installed by Constant employees.

What sets Constant’s command center furniture apart from the competition is the high standard of quality and the individual care that goes into crafting each piece. Said Gruber, “we do a lot of planning before we even begin the fabrication process so that we can ensure that our products stand the test of time.”

Attention to detail and the clients’ needs is another key contributor to the quality of Constant’s operations center furniture. The console department designs and engineers our control center consoles with numerous ergonomic specification in mind because they need to be comfortable to work at in demanding 24/7 environments. Complete customization is something Constant prides itself on; said Costa, “custom angles or specific equipment requirements are always just considered part of the project.” Because of the custom nature of our furniture, improvements and replacements are always available. “The life of the furniture we make doesn’t have an end date,” said Gruber. “The parts can be obtained many years later, as well as another of the exact same console.” At Constant, we don’t phase out our parts or consoles; we are committed to providing exactly what the customer needs.

The mission critical console team has extensive experience in the world of operations center furniture design. Not only does this mean that we use only high-quality materials known for durability, but our team’s experience also means that the department can help clients with decisions to keep their projects within budget.

Team members in our console department work tirelessly to make sure that our clients are completely satisfied. “Completion of the project only comes when our client is totally satisfied with the final product,” said Costa.
