The initial phase involved the team working with minimal resources – folding tables and basic computers. Tara Brians, the former RTIC Operations Manager, explains the mission behind their RTIC:
What we really wanted to see for the department was a place to provide information that was real time to enhance situational awareness, support public safety, and help officers at the scene.
Over time, this vision became a comprehensive plan for a high-tech RTIC. The transformation was significant: from a setup of folding tables in a temporary space to a fully equipped command center. Captain Johnston and his team transformed the RTIC from a conceptual plan into one of the nation’s most advanced Real-Time Operations Centers within just 12 months, which included the complete physical buildout and integration. Since its launch, the Tulsa RTIC has achieved remarkable success and emerged as one of the most frequently visited RTICs in the country. The RTIC has proven to be an effective solution, integrating advanced technology to improve collective performance within the department.
