Constant Technologies is heading to GridSecCon 2026, taking place October 20–23 in Orlando, Florida.

GridSecCon brings together professionals working across grid operations, cybersecurity, physical security, and resilience. Constant will be there to connect with utility organizations and discuss the control rooms that support continuous monitoring, coordination, and response.

Control Room Design for Utility Operations

Generation, transmission, and distribution control rooms each have distinct operational and design requirements.

Operator workflows, visualization needs, system requirements, training, backup operations, and room layout all influence how a control room should be planned. Constant starts with the operation itself, then designs the physical space, operator consoles, display systems, sightlines, and technology around how those requirements.

Bringing those elements together early supports situational awareness, clear workflows, and effective coordination throughout 24/7 operations.

Planning Beyond the Technology

Effective control room design considers how operators interact with information, technology, and each other throughout the shift.

That includes what information belongs at the operator workstation, what needs to be visible across the room, how supervisors maintain awareness of operations, and how departments coordinate when conditions change.

Training requirements, backup operations, system upgrades, and future expansion also influence the design. Addressing those needs during planning gives utilities a control room designed around current operations while leaving room for the technology and operational changes ahead.

Utility Experience at GridSecCon

Brandon Scroggs, Constant’s Director of Utilities and Process Control, will join our team at GridSecCon.

Brandon brings decades of utility experience across generation, transmission, and distribution operations. That experience gives Constant an important perspective when planning utility control rooms: the design needs to reflect the operation, not the other way around.

Understanding operator workflows, system requirements, training and backup needs, and future plans helps inform decisions throughout the project, from room layout and consoles to visualization and technology integration.
