Touch Device Sanitation During COVID-19

Control panels, tablets, and other forms of touch screens can be found in every operations center. And despite the current pandemic, mission critical operators are still showing up to work to perform vital functions.

Given the situation facing our customers across the globe, we’ve assembled a few tips on cleaning and disinfecting touch screens in your mission critical spaces to protect the operators who use them.

Many operators in mission critical command centers are considered essential employees who are still working through this pandemic. Our #1 priority is to offer our support as much as possible during this time, and that includes doing what we can to pass on information to keep our clients safe from the transmission of COVID-19.

Among their disease-prevention guidelines, the CDC stresses the importance of frequently sanitizing high touch surfaces.

Tips for sanitizing high-touch electronic surfaces

When cleaning your control system touch panels, use any ammonia-free glass cleaner or disinfectant. Apply a small amount of the cleaner to a towel or microfiber cloth, making sure it is damp, not wet. Wipe the display clean. Most electronics are not waterproof, so do not apply cleaner to them directly or wipe the plastic that surrounds the display.

Touchscreen control panels play a key role in allowing operators to remain connected to important data in the most demanding environments.

The importance of programming and control

Programming control systems is an essential component of all of Constant’s mission critical installations.

Benjamin Watkins, Vice President of Technical Engineering at Constant Technologies, said that programming for control systems “provides the glue and scaffolding to make everything work together as a bigger whole that is a lot smarter than any of the individual components. Our programming takes all the equipment and makes it work as if it is all one system, as if the components were designed to work together.”

The control system can include the touch panels that control the AV equipment as well as the video wall controllers and switchers. Every element is configured so that the behavior of the device matches what the users need in the room.

Because the custom-programmed control system is so pivotal to the function of these mission critical spaces, it is vital that they remain sanitized to promote operator health.

In the midst of the current situation, our goal is to make sure we’re doing all we can to keep our clients safe and their mission critical centers operating as best as possible.
