The world of cybersecurity has an ongoing problem: in the US, there is a shortage of cybersecurity employees that continues to worsen. According to a 2017 Global Information Security Workforce Study, the gap in the cybersecurity workforce is expected to grow to 1.8 million by the year 2022. The demand for cybersecurity professionals continues to grow, as cybersecurity operations centers are built for industries such as financial services and health care in addition to government departments. Though veterans are greatly qualified for roles in operations centers for cybersecurity, there are still some industry-specific technical skills they may need to learn. Thankfully, there are now a number of scholarships and specialty training programs specifically aimed at veterans looking to branch into the cybersecurity industry, such as the Engility CyberWarrior Scholarship program which offers cybersecurity certification training scholarships.
