Veterans in Cyber Security Operations Centers

The world of cybersecurity has an ongoing problem: in the US, there is a shortage of cybersecurity employees that continues to worsen. According to a 2017 Global Information Security Workforce Study, the gap in the cybersecurity workforce is expected to grow to 1.8 million by the year 2022. The demand for cybersecurity professionals continues to grow, as cybersecurity operations centers are built for industries such as financial services and health care in addition to government departments. As cybersecurity becomes increasingly vital to organizations of all scopes, the need for individuals who can staff cyber command environments increases exponentially.

This gap proves difficult to fill, as roles in cybersecurity require highly skilled and dedicated professionals. However, there is a group with unique experience and skills that enable them to work for cybersecurity in the United States: veterans. Former members of the armed forces who have worked in areas such as intelligence gathering and communications, especially in a command center, are a good fit. Veterans are especially qualified due to their military background of teamwork, focus and concern for security.

Though veterans are greatly qualified for roles in operations centers for cybersecurity, there are still some industry-specific technical skills they may need to learn. Thankfully, there are now a number of scholarships and specialty training programs specifically aimed at veterans looking to branch into the cybersecurity industry, such as the Engility CyberWarrior Scholarship program which offers cybersecurity certification training scholarships.

As mission critical AV integrators for command and control environments, Constant Technologies acknowledges the important role that veterans have come to play in the world of cybersecurity. Our world-class installations of ergonomic control room furniture, command center consoles, and data wall systems help operators in cybersecurity centers maintain the situational awareness needed to monitor cyber operations.

The team at Constant thanks all veterans for their service to our country and ongoing assistance with their active role in protecting our cybersecurity.
